0

Results have started emerging from polling units across Ekiti State following the conclusion of voting in parts of the state’s governorship election.

The election commenced at about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday across the 2,445 polling units spread across the 16 local government areas of the state as voters turned out to elect a governor for the next four years.

Reports from observers and journalists indicated varying levels of voter participation across the state, with impressive turnout recorded in some locations and relatively low participation in others.

Fourteen political parties are participating in the election.

There were also reports of alleged vote-buying in some polling units during the exercise.

According to electoral records, Ekiti State has 1,059,360 registered voters, while 1,028,929 voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and are eligible to participate in the election.

Results are expected to be declared by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presiding officers at polling units before final collation at ward, local government and state levels.

The final collation is expected to take place at the INEC headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
