Confusion Trails APC Ilaje/Ese-Odo Primary as Ojogo Camp Rejects Akingboye’s Victory Claim
Confusion and controversy have continued to trail the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency following conflicting claims over the outcome of the exercise.
Earlier reports from the primary indicated that Hon. Pastor Leke Akingboye emerged winner of the election after polling 8,603 votes to defeat other aspirants in the contest.
The results, announced by the Returning Officer, Hon. Adamson Akinwale Owole, showed that Hon. Donald Ojogo secured 2,794 votes, Hon. Otunba Ayara polled 2,781 votes, Prince Monday Akinyemi recorded 1,331 votes, while Hon. Felana Olamide scored 583 votes.
Following the announcement, supporters of Akingboye celebrated across parts of the constituency, describing the outcome as a decisive mandate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the camp of Hon. Donald Kimikanboh Ojogo has rejected the purported declaration, insisting that no official result has yet been released by the appropriate party authorities.
In a rebuttal statement issued on Saturday and signed by Oladeji Ebisemiju, Chief of Staff to Hon. Ojogo, the camp described the announcement of Akingboye as winner as inaccurate and contrary to procedures guiding APC direct primaries.
The statement maintained that only the designated APC panel and the party’s national leadership possess the authority to officially declare authentic results of the exercise.
The Ojogo camp further accused certain individuals of allegedly acting with bias and overstepping their roles in the conduct and announcement of the election outcome.
Supporters of Hon. Ojogo were urged to remain calm while awaiting what the camp described as the final and official declaration from the APC National Headquarters.
As of the time of filing this report, the APC National Headquarters had not issued any official statement regarding the disputed outcome of the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency primary election.
