Sowore, Legal Team Left Waiting as Court Fails to Convene
The trial of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja was stalled on Monday following the absence of the presiding judge, who did not resume sitting after the Easter vacation.
Sowore, who is facing charges over alleged comments about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was present in court alongside his legal team when the matter was called. However, proceedings could not go ahead due to the judge’s absence.
The development marks the latest in a series of adjournments that have slowed the pace of the trial, raising concerns about delays in the judicial process.
A member of the defence team, who spoke briefly after the stalled sitting, described the situation as “another unexpected delay,” noting that all parties were prepared to proceed before the court failed to sit.
The case has drawn public attention amid broader concerns about efficiency and consistency within Nigeria’s justice system, particularly in high-profile matters.
No official communication was immediately issued regarding a new hearing date as of the time of filing this report.
