Saraki, Mimiko, Osoba, Others Set For Inaugural Former Governors’ Forum Meeting
The Former Governors’ Forum of Nigeria has announced plans to hold its inaugural meeting in April in Abuja, bringing together past state leaders to contribute to national development and governance.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the forum’s National Coordinator, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, who described the meeting as a significant step toward harnessing the experience of former governors for the country’s progress.
According to Onaiwu, the forum is designed as a non-partisan platform aimed at leveraging the knowledge and leadership experience of former state executives to address Nigeria’s governance and developmental challenges.
He noted that the gathering represents a strategic effort to institutionalise the contributions of past leaders and ensure continuity in governance thinking.
Several prominent political figures are expected at the meeting, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former Ondo State governor Olusegun Mimiko, and veteran journalist and former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba.
Other expected attendees include Victor Attah, Ibrahim Shema, and Ikedi Ohakim, among others.
The forum emphasised that it is not intended to function as a political bloc but as a platform for constructive engagement on key national issues, including governance reforms, policy development, and institutional strengthening.
Onaiwu stated that the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between past leadership experience and present-day challenges, ensuring that lessons from previous administrations are effectively applied.
The inaugural meeting is expected to outline the structure, objectives, and strategic direction of the forum, while also defining the role of former governors in shaping national discourse.
Organisers expressed optimism that the platform would contribute to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting a more stable, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
