Jubilation in Bayelsa as ‘Junior Barrister’ Emerges President of Izon Band Leaders Association
There was widespread celebration in Yenagoa as a new executive council of the Great Izon Band Leaders Association was inaugurated, signalling a renewed push to promote Ijaw music and cultural identity.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Udeme Hotels, attracted key stakeholders in the Izon music industry, with participants emphasizing unity, growth and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Director Prosper Koku Tamunoemi, popularly known as Junior Barrister, emerged as President of the association, leading a team of newly elected executives.
Other members of the executive council include Prince Famous Tenade Tiemo as Vice President; Okun-Owei Ayibateke Destiny, also known as De Creek Voice, as Secretary; Peres Oweiware as Assistant Secretary; Best May J. Fred as Treasurer; Sen. Bekes J. Teilatei as Financial Secretary; Tiga D Advocate as Provost; Founder Eyoroere Gbenekeama as Public Relations Officer; Bishop Noah Alabor as Speaker of the House; and Sir Buku Coded as Organising Secretary.
The event drew heightened excitement with the arrival of renowned Izon music icon, Alfred Izonebi, popularly known as Jking, who urged Ijaw musicians yet to identify with the association to join.
“There is strength in unity. This association is a platform for collective growth and representation,” he said.
Jking commended the leadership of the association and charged the new executives to serve selflessly while advancing the interests of Izon musicians.
His remarks were followed by a brief musical performance that further energized the gathering.
In his remarks, delivered through his representative, Williams Alamene, the chairman of the occasion praised the organising committee led by Chief Abraham Young and urged the new leadership to promote unity and cultural values.
“Music remains a strong vehicle for sustaining cultural identity. The association must take the lead in preserving the rich heritage of the Ijaw people,” he said.
The inauguration ended on a celebratory note, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the new leadership would strengthen collaboration and elevate the profile of Izon music both locally and beyond.
