The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has called on the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive steps to end the cycle of violence in Plateau State, following recent attacks in Jos and surrounding communities.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Adams described the persistent insecurity in the state as unacceptable, warning that the continued loss of lives poses a serious threat to national unity and stability.

Adams urged the Federal Government to consider the immediate establishment of state police as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework.

According to him, decentralising policing would enable quicker response to local threats and improve intelligence gathering at the grassroots level.

“It is unacceptable that citizens continue to live under the shadow of fear due to recurring attacks. The safety and security of every Nigerian must be guaranteed without delay,” he said.

The Yoruba leader stressed the need for a comprehensive review of the country’s current security architecture to address the root causes of recurring violence.

He noted that the recent attacks highlight the urgency of adopting more effective strategies to protect lives and property across affected regions.

Adams also called for increased engagement with local communities and traditional leaders as part of peacebuilding efforts.

He emphasised that justice must be served by ensuring that perpetrators of violent attacks are apprehended and prosecuted.

“We must engage communities and local leaders in dialogue and peacebuilding efforts, while ensuring that those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice,” he added.

The call comes amid rising concerns over insecurity in parts of Nigeria, particularly in regions experiencing repeated communal and insurgent-related violence.

Stakeholders have continued to urge the government to adopt both military and non-military approaches to achieve lasting peace and stability across the country.
