“Don’t Campaign Here,” Egbema Residents Fire Warning Shot at Omosede Igbinedion
A strong political message has emerged from Egbema communities in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, as Comrade Possy Okpoye publicly challenged Omosede Igbinedion over the long-standing Udo-Ofunama road project.
In a statement that underscores rising political tension ahead of the election season, signed by Okpoye, declared that the people of Egbema, particularly Ijaw communities, will no longer tolerate what he described as “empty promises and sugar-coated words” from political leaders.
“We know it’s election season, and politicians are sweet-talking their way to our votes. But this time around, it won’t be business as usual,” he said.
The statement comes in response to recent remarks by Hon. Igbinedion regarding the Udo-Ofunama road, a project widely seen by residents as critical to economic activity and daily life in the area.
Okpoye emphasized that the road has now become a litmus test of the lawmaker’s commitment to her constituents.
“We’re telling you now: failure to construct the Udo-Ofunama road means you won’t get our votes. Not for APC, not for you,” he warned.
Okpoye stressed that the people of Egbema are united in their demand for tangible development, insisting that political accountability must take precedence over campaign rhetoric.
“The Udo-Ofunama road is not just infrastructure, it’s about accountability. The people are watching. Your time is ticking. Start doing the right thing,” he added.
He further cautioned that failure to act could result in a total rejection at the polls, urging the lawmaker to prioritize the welfare and well-being of the constituency.
“The people of Egbema in Ovia Federal Constituency will not be silenced. We will not be ignored. We will not be deceived,” Okpoye declared.
The statement reflects growing frustration among residents in parts of southern Edo, where infrastructure deficits remain a major political issue.
With elections approaching, the Udo-Ofunama road project is shaping up to be a key factor influencing voter sentiment in the constituency.
