Final Rites Announced for Late Patriarch, Dr. Jones Unakeme Wonni
With profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss, the families of Wonni of Amapere and Piawei of Arogbo, in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, announce the passing of their beloved patriarch, Dr. Jones Unakeme Wonni, who departed this life on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 72. Dr. Wonni, a devoted father, brother, grandfather, and highly respected community leader, will be laid to rest following a series of funeral rites to be held in Abuja and Ondo State.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS
The funeral activities will commence on Friday, March 27, 2026, with a Service of Songs and Social Wake -Keep organised by the Ijaw Community in Abuja. The event is scheduled to take place at Ambassadors Royal Ministries, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, at 4:00 p.m.
The final burial rites will begin on Friday, April 3, 2026, with the body lying in state at the Ese-Odo Local Government Secretariat, Igbekebo, at 9:00 a.m., after which it will proceed to his residence at No. 5 Wonni Street, Amapere.
This will be followed by cultural displays by the Kure Emonimighan Cultural Group. Christian Wake-keep services will also be held by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Salvation Parish, Arogbo, and subsequently an all-night wake by the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church, Amapere.
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, a funeral service will be conducted at the C&S Church, Amapere, at 8:00 a.m., followed by interment.
A reception and entertainment of guests will take place thereafter, featuring live musical performances.
The day’s activities will culminate in a grand social gathering with further musical entertainment in the evening.
A Thanksgiving Service is scheduled for Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the C&S Church, Amapere, by 9:00 a.m., followed by social gatherings in honour of the late patriarch.
All events will be held at his residence in Amapere, Ese-Odo Local Government Area, Ondo State, unless otherwise stated.
