EFCC Hands Over ₦3.9 Billion Recovered Funds To NNPCL In Abuja
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has transferred a total of ₦3,936,145,822 in recovered funds to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), reinforcing ongoing efforts to promote transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s oil sector.
The handover ceremony took place on March 18, 2026, at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where the commission’s Secretary, Mohammed Hammajoda, presented the funds on behalf of the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
According to Hammajoda, the recovered sum was the outcome of thorough investigations into fraudulent dealings involving certain individuals linked to the national oil company. He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to combating economic and financial crimes, noting that its operations are driven by a sense of duty and sacrifice.
Receiving the funds on behalf of NNPCL, the Executive Vice President (Downstream), Mumuni Dagazau, commended the EFCC for its role in the recovery process. He described the development as a significant step in strengthening accountability within the organisation.
Dagazau acknowledged the longstanding challenges faced by NNPCL, stating that the company remains committed to reforming its systems and improving operational transparency. He added that collaboration with agencies like the EFCC would continue to play a crucial role in achieving these objectives.
The recovery and subsequent handover highlight ongoing institutional efforts to curb corruption, enhance financial discipline, and rebuild public trust in Nigeria’s critical sectors.
