FORMER PENSION TASK FORCE BOSS, ABDULRASHEED MAINA, SLUMPS AND IS RUSHED TO ABUJA HOSPITAL
A former Chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reform Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina, has reportedly slumped and is currently hospitalised in Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his media assistant, Emmanuel Ekwe, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, while Maina was attempting to access his office premises.
Ekwe explained that the incident was triggered by complications arising from an untreated knee injury, which caused Maina to lose his balance and fall. He reportedly hit his head on a staircase before medical personnel intervened.
“Dr Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, slumped on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, while attempting to access his office premises.
“The incident followed complications from an untreated knee injury, which caused him to lose balance and fall, resulting in his head hitting the staircase,” the statement said.
He added that medical personnel promptly administered first aid before rushing Maina to a private hospital in Abuja for urgent medical attention.
According to the statement, Maina is currently receiving intensive medical care and remains under close observation. A preliminary medical assessment reportedly indicated that an air ambulance medical evacuation may be considered if his condition does not stabilise within a short period.
“Dr Maina is currently receiving intensive medical care and remains under observation. One of the attending doctors advised that arrangements for an air ambulance medical evacuation be considered should his condition fail to stabilise,” Ekwe stated.
The family has appealed to the public for prayers, understanding, and respect for their privacy as his condition continues to be monitored.
Abdulrasheed Maina is widely known for his controversial tenure as head of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms and the high-profile corruption case that followed his time in office.
