Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday presented brand-new Toyota SUVs to traditional rulers across the state, describing the gesture as part of his administration’s commitment to promoting the welfare and dignity of the traditional institution.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony held in Akure, the governor said the move represented a significant step in strengthening the bond between government and the royal fathers while enhancing their role in peacebuilding and community development.

Aiyedatiwa commended the monarchs for their steadfast support in maintaining stability across their domains, noting that their cooperation had contributed greatly to the progress of the state.

He said, “Our traditional rulers remain the custodians of our culture and heritage, the bridge between government and the people. As such, their welfare is a priority for this administration. Within our first year in office, we completed the long-abandoned secretariat for our royal fathers, ensuring they have a befitting place for meetings and activities.”

The governor also highlighted the regular payment of the statutory five percent allocation from local government funds to traditional councils as part of his administration’s dedication to their wellbeing.

Today, all Grade ‘A’ Obas will receive Toyota Fortuner 2025 models, while Grade ‘B and C’ Obas will get Toyota Corolla Cross 2025 models in due course. These vehicles are not just for convenience—they symbolize honour, respect, and recognition of your invaluable service to the people,” he added.

Aiyedatiwa urged the traditional rulers to continue partnering with his administration in maintaining peace and supporting government programmes at the grassroots level.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, said the initiative was a mark of appreciation for the monarchs’ vital role in sustaining peace, unity, and community development. He praised the governor for fulfilling his promise to improve their welfare and encouraged the beneficiaries to put the vehicles to good use.

In his response, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, who chairs the Ondo State Council of Obas, expressed deep gratitude to the governor, describing the gesture as both thoughtful and historic.

He said, “Governor Aiyedatiwa has consistently demonstrated goodwill towards the traditional institution. We assure him of our continued support and cooperation in driving the development of Ondo State.”
