In Tears and Tribute, Akwa Ibom Bids Farewell to Late Housing Commissioner

With deep respect and quiet dignity, a final salute was given to a statesman of tireless service, the Akwa Ibom State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, on Thursday held a valedictory State Executive Council session in honour of the late Commissioner for Housing, Otuekong Raphael Bassey.

The emotionally charged session, which took place at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, was attended by members of the State Executive Council, senior government officials, friends, and family of the deceased.

Describing the late Bassey as a man of deep conviction and enduring loyalty to the state, Governor Umo Eno paid glowing tributes to the fallen public servant, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to the Akwa Ibom Project. Otuekong Raphael Bassey was more than a colleague, he was a trusted ally and a dependable son of this state. His contributions to our housing sector were both visionary and people-centered,” the Governor stated.

Governor Eno further urged the Executive Council and the wider Akwa Ibom family to draw strength from Bassey’s legacy of service and dedication. Governor Umo Eno: ‘Raphael Bassey’s Legacy in Service Will Never Be Forgotten”, he added.

The valedictory session featured a moment of silence, testimonials from fellow council members, and the formal presentation of a tribute document to the family of the deceased.

Late Otuekong Raphael Bassey, a respected political figure and technocrat, served as the Commissioner for Housing until his passing. He was known for his humility, discipline, and deep sense of responsibility traits that earned him admiration across political divides.

As the state prepares to bid him a final farewell, the mood across Akwa Ibom remains one of deep respect, reflection, and gratitude for a man who gave his all in service to his people.
