With a sweeping offensive against cross-border fuel smuggling, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dealt a major blow to illicit trade networks, seizing petroleum products and vehicles valued at over ₦63 million in Adamawa State.
The five-week crackdown, dubbed Operation blackout, targeted notorious smuggling routes along Nigeria’s northeastern corridor — with operations executed in Dasin-Fufore, Belel-Farang, Mubi-Sahuda, Maiha, and Girei-Wuro Bokki.
Customs officials say the operation was launched to dismantle the escalating fuel smuggling rings that have long sabotaged national revenue and endangered border security.
“This is a decisive message to smugglers: the days of unchecked economic sabotage are over,” a senior Customs officer declared.
The operation not only disrupted supply chains feeding the illegal fuel market but also sent a powerful warning to smuggling cartels operating in the region.
Authorities have vowed to sustain the pressure, promising that Operation Whirlwind is just the beginning of intensified enforcement in the fight against economic crimes across Nigeria’s borders.
