Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is set to embark on a two-day working visit to Ondo State, accompanied by the wives of 17 state governors. The visit will feature the launch of key healthcare and empowerment programmes as part of her “Renewed Hope Initiative.”
At a media briefing in Akure, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender Affairs, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwaseun Osamaye, explained that the visit would introduce the Free to Shine Campaign and the Triple Elimination Initiative, aimed at combating HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and syphilis among women of reproductive age.

As part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery, 10,000 professional kits will be distributed to midwives and nurses throughout the South-West, enhancing maternal and child health services.
“These programmes are targeted at equipping health workers with the necessary tools and improving overall healthcare outcomes not just in Ondo, but across the South-West region,” Osamaye stated.
Additionally, 200 women from Ondo State will receive training and support in textile production, including access to materials and resources to grow their businesses.
The formal reception will take place at The Dome, International Events Centre in Alagbaka, Akure, where the “Free to Shine” campaign will be officially unveiled.
Osamaye also highlighted the impact of the First Lady’s broader initiatives already felt in the state, such as: scholarship support through the Educational Support Program for underprivileged students; financial aid to elderly citizens under the Elderly Support Program; the Women in Cultural Support Empowerment Program; a Youth Empowerment Scheme that has trained and funded over 1,000 young people; and the Young Farmers Club, active in primary and secondary schools.
She also noted Ondo State’s achievement in the “Every Home a Garden” national competition, where a local participant secured second place.
“We are honored to welcome Her Excellency. Ondo State is fully prepared,” she said, adding that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his wife Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, and his wife Mrs. Bosede Adelami, along with leaders from various sectors, will be on hand to receive the delegation.
The visit is expected to mark one of the largest gatherings of First Ladies in recent times, underscoring the significance of the event in promoting women’s empowerment and improved healthcare delivery.
