In response to a surge of deadly attacks in Plateau State since March 28, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the urgent deployment of counter-terrorism units, tactical teams, and high-tech surveillance tools to the affected areas.
A statement issued Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the move reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to restoring calm, safeguarding residents, and holding those behind the attacks accountable.

To lead the intervention, the IGP dispatched the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, who arrived in Plateau on April 8. During his visit, DIG Yakubu met with Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, to evaluate the situation and deliver the IGP’s condolences to the victims’ families.
The deployment involves elite police units and resources, including aerial drones, helicopters, armored personnel carriers (APCs), the Police Mobile Force, and special teams from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS). These will be strategically stationed for operations, particularly in Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding communities that have faced repeated assaults.
The violence began with a brutal incident in Bokkos on March 28 and has since escalated, resulting in numerous casualties and widespread fear among residents.
During engagements with state officials and community leaders, DIG Yakubu emphasized the need for sustainable peace strategies, including addressing the underlying issues fueling the unrest.
The police assured continued collaboration with the Plateau State Government, local residents, and other security bodies to achieve lasting stability. Citizens are encouraged to stay alert and share reliable information to aid ongoing security efforts.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully dedicated to protecting lives and property, and we will persist until peace is fully restored in Plateau State,” the IGP stated.
