The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has announced that all full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates will now be eligible for mobilisation into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
This resolution, which addresses a long-standing issue, was detailed in a statement released in Abuja on Thursday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo.
According to Boriowo, Dr. Alausa confirmed that after discussions with the Director-General of NYSC, it was agreed that only full-time HND graduates would qualify for mobilisation.

He described the development as a significant breakthrough, as HND graduates had previously been excluded from the NYSC programme. He also noted that this decision reflects the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to ensuring equity, fairness, and inclusivity in the education system.
However, Alausa clarified that individuals who completed their HND through part-time studies would remain ineligible for NYSC mobilisation.
To streamline the process, he directed the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to accelerate the collation of data for eligible HND graduates. In line with this, a circular has been sent to all Polytechnic Rectors, instructing them to upload the required graduate data onto a newly developed HND admission portal.
Alausa emphasized that the NYSC mobilisation process would be strictly limited to those who completed a full-time HND programme. He also highlighted that the newly created portal would serve as an official database for NYSC mobilisation, resolving past issues related to admission records.
He encouraged all eligible full-time HND graduates to take advantage of this opportunity and complete their mobilisation process without delay. He further reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing equal opportunities for all qualified Nigerian graduates, ensuring their participation in national development through the NYSC scheme.
