Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State announced on Thursday that the Abiyamo Maternal and Child Health Insurance Scheme (AMCHIS) has successfully delivered over 4,265 babies since its launch. The scheme, introduced by the late former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in 2022, is designed to reduce maternal mortality by providing free healthcare to pregnant women and children under five. This initiative has already seen 46,741 beneficiaries.

Additionally, Aiyedatiwa revealed plans to build a cancer healthcare center in the state. He highlighted the state’s commitment to enhancing the health sector, noting that the Abiyamo scheme has provided over 4,265 deliveries, including 380 twins, 10 triplets, and two quadruplets at no cost to the beneficiaries.

The Governor also mentioned the establishment of the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission, which has registered 56,700 enrollees across 203 wards in 18 LGAs, aiming to ensure Universal Health Coverage. The Orange Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS) covers 101,017 public servants and their dependents, with over 460 surgeries performed in under two years. Recently, ORANGHIS was expanded to include over 4,000 informal sector workers.

Other achievements include substantial recruitment and training of health professionals, regular salary payments for health workers, and the distribution of N100 million worth of free drugs to health facilities. The state has also embarked on several infrastructure projects to enhance health services across various hospitals.
