A prominent Niger Delta environmentalist and human rights advocate, Chief Mulade Sheriff, PhD, has called on politicians in Delta State to allow Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to complete his development agenda without distractions ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Chief Mulade made the appeal in Asaba shortly after the official flag-off of the ₦59.7 billion Lagos–Asaba Expressway Flyover at Uromi Junction, Agbor, describing the project as another major step in the state’s infrastructural transformation.

According to him, the pace and quality of projects under the current administration show that Governor Oborevwori assumed office fully prepared to deliver on his mandate.

“We have just witnessed the commencement of another strategic flyover after that of Ughelli. This will greatly enhance economic activities in this axis and ease movement. The Governor deserves commendation for responding to the needs of the people,” he stated.

The Ijaw leader noted that since assuming office, Governor Oborevwori has consistently demonstrated commitment to people-centered governance and has not fallen short of expectations.

Chief Mulade, who holds the traditional title of Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, also applauded the state government for recently presenting 65 brand new SUVs to traditional rulers, describing the gesture as a sign of respect for cultural institutions.

“Our traditional rulers are custodians of our heritage and culture. Supporting them strengthens grassroots governance and peace across the state,” he added.

Calling for political restraint ahead of 2027, the activist urged politicians to support the Governor’s continuity in office rather than challenge him prematurely.

“With the level of development we are seeing, he should be encouraged to seek a second term to consolidate on the people-oriented projects already ongoing. I appeal to politicians not to distract him but to support the progress of Delta State,” he said.

Chief Mulade further expressed optimism that more projects would be unveiled in the coming months, particularly in riverine communities that have long awaited increased government presence.
