IYC Applauds INEC, Urges Stakeholders to Ensure a Just and Smooth Delineation Exercise in Warri Federal Constituency

PRESS RELEASE

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adhering to the Supreme Court’s directive by initiating a fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency. This move underscores INEC’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and fostering democratic processes in Nigeria.

In a statement, the IYC urged INEC to ensure fairness, equity, and credibility throughout the delineation exercise. They emphasized the importance of representing the rights and interests of all ethnic groups within the Warri Federal Constituency justly.

The IYC also called on Ijaw political leaders and stakeholders to actively engage in the delineation process, stressing the need to defend and protect the rights of the Ijaw people in the constituency.

The Council condemned recent attempts by some youths from the Itsekiri ethnic nationality to protest against the lawful exercise, labeling such actions as uncalled for and counterproductive. They issued a stern warning that any efforts to disrupt or sabotage the delineation process would not be tolerated.

Additionally, the IYC called on relevant security agencies to ensure that adequate security measures are in place to protect INEC officials, enabling them to carry out their duties without hindrance. They stressed the importance of conducting the delineation process smoothly and without any form of intimidation or disruption.
